Printer settings
Can someone tell me how to tell one of the public networked printers that it should pull paper from Tray 2, when Tray 3 runs out of paper? Thanks!
An Entire Article on ‘Back to the Top’ links
Smashing Magazine is a recent discovery of mine. It’s entirely devoted to web page design and the graphic arts, and has many excellent articles. The one caught my eye today is all about those little links that take you back to the top of the page, which you (and I) probably haven’t give much thought. But other people obviously have…

Lesser Known Applications — Adobe LiveCycle
This is the first in a (hoped for) series of posts about software that we have is a bit out of the usual, but still useful.
Some people have seen Acrobat forms. Well the proper way to create them is with a product called Adobe Livecycle. Moving beyond the simple options, livecycle can become very advanced. While you won’t be able to do most of the backend stuff (because we do not at present have a livecycle workflow server, though please do request one if you’d like) you can very easilly digitize just about any form you could imagine with just the tools you have. Any person with a relatively recent version of acrobat reader can then use these forms, and submit them (via email, see the server comment above), which saves trees, and reduces the chance of loss.

Uhu? Woo-hoo!
This isn’t really a tech post, but if you ever have to stick a piece of paper to anything, I recommend Uhu glue-stick. It applies easily, dries hard as a rock, and washes off with water, leaving no mark. Tape always ends up looking like crap, but Uhu is clean and neat and forever, barring a rainstorm. I used it to glue little signs to all the OPAC desks in the stacks and it works a treat both on wood and plastic, and probably glass, too.
/not getting any money from Uhu, more’s the pity
“Magazine Style” RSS Reader for FF
Feedly is a pretty good RSS Reader that runs off your google reader account, so the feeds are the same on any computer that you install it to. It has a categorization system and a pretty nice web interface: http://www.feedly.com/ It installs as a FireFox addon: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/8538
